Creative Spark-Youth and Professional Artist Mentorship Project
A six week workshop series designed to foster creativity and expose youth to the arts as a potential career path. Five professional artists were assigned two (or sometimes three) youth, interested in that discipline. The Spring session includes: airbrush and murals, painting, encaustic, mixed media, poetry/spoken word and video. Workshops held in artist studios; youth are introduced to artist influences, process, etc. and participate in art-making activities led by the artist. All youth artwork created during the series were exhibited in the culminating event that occurred on April 11, 2015, in the Beacon Arts Building in Inglewood, CA.
Funded in part by Southern California Edison (SCE) National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and an anonymous group of donors.
